Celebrating the classics and the new favourites

Walkers have been making The World’s Finest Shortbread since 1898. Every piece of shortbread produced in our factories is made using the very finest ingredients. We have traditional recipes with a long heritage, but also offer innovation, new ideas and new products are added to our successful range on a regular basis.

Some of our bestsellers include the world-famous, very finest shortbread fingers, the tasty chocolate chip shortbread and the elegant shortbread in the shape of petticoat tails. All these classic products have been made to the original recipe for over 100 years. We also do twists on classic shortbread, like these shortbread orange royals, and our melt-in-the-mouth Homebake range.

Recent additions to the Walkers Shortbread selection include a whole range of gluten free shortbread, so that everyone can enjoy the delicious, buttery taste of crumbly shortbread. We have our traditional gluten free all-butter shortbread rounds, which recently won two stars at the prestigious Great Taste Awards. There are also gluten free ginger and lemon shortbread, and our delicious chocolate chip shortbread, all 100% guaranteed gluten free with the Crossed Grain symbol.

We also have several keepsake tins marking various important occasions. The commemorative tin marking Queen Elizabeth II becoming Britain’s longest reigning monarch, filled with delicate Union Jack shortbread shapes, is one of the recent favourites. These collector’s items do sell out, so if you want a beautiful tin to call your own, don’t wait too long to order yours.

Shortbread and a wee dram in celebration

A toast to shortbread is in order on a day like National Shortbread Day. We could toast with champagne or other bubbles, but for a truly perfect match, we will raise a glass of traditional Scottish whisky to our favourite shortbread. Whisky and shortbread is a match made in food heaven. The rounded, buttery taste and melt-in-the-mouth texture of Walkers Shortbread is perfectly accompanied by the full flavour of a rich whisky from the Scottish Highlands. Why not try a beautiful dram of the Aberlour single malt, distilled just down the road from our home in Aberlour? Or a flavoursome Glenfiddich, a famous Scottish whisky which we combine with our top-quality baking in several of our popular products. Taste the selection in our Aberlour gift box or the Fiddich gift box for a celebration of the local heritage on this National Shortbread Day.

More shortbread celebrations

Shortbread has it’s own day on January 6th, but it plays a key part in many celebrations during the rest of the year too. There are several Scottish wedding rituals intimately connected with shortbread, and for Hogmanay or New Year’s Eve it brings good luck to include shortbread in the age-old custom of first-footing. Burns Night, which takes place on January 25, is another occasion to bring the shortbread to the centre of the table, so if you love shortbread like we do, there are many occasions to look forward to in the year to come.

Happy National Shortbread Day from all of us at Walkers!
