Our Community | Aberlour Primary Tree Planting

Walkers Shortbread were delighted to invite pupils from local school, Aberlour Primary, to plant trees on the grounds here at Walkers Head Office.

The trees were generously provided by Woodland Trust Scotland, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity with support from Sainsbury’s, IKEA FAMILY, players of People’s Postcode Lottery and Yorkshire Tea.

The Woodland Trust have over 500,000 members and supporters across the UK and the aim of the trust is to protect and campaign on behalf of woods, plant trees, and restore woodland for the benefit of wildlife and people.

Primary 4/5 planted over 30 trees with help from Walkers grounds team.  

Iain Kearton, class teacher at Aberlour Primary School said:

“Taking responsibility for our environment in our community is a really important to us at Aberlour Primary. The trees we planted today will be a benefit to the community for generations and help to create a more diverse environment for wildlife. 

We really value our relationship with Walkers, and cherish opportunities like this to take our learning outside the classroom."

The trees are being planted to extend and improve existing woodlands on the estate, and will in time increase the habitat available to mini-beasts and bird life. 

Jim Connell, Grounds Manager at Walkers Shortbread commented:

"The children arrived like a whirlwind, with their energy and enthusiasm such a pleasure to witness. I hope they remember to come back to Aberlour House in future to visit their trees and see them grow, flower and bear fruit."
